Manchester Men Arrested In Concord Gas Station Robbery, Kidnapping Case: Follow-Up

John Donnell and Luke McClintick face charges after the Loudon Road Gully Hill Shell gas station was robbed and a clerk kidnapped April 9.

CONCORD, NH — Concord police have arrested two men from Manchester after a monthslong investigation into a robbery and kidnapping incident at the Gully Hill Shell gas station on Loudon Road.

Around 2:30 a.m. on April 9, while an officer was headed to another call, they reported seeing a man handcuffed in the area of North Main and Centre streets who flagged them down and stated they had been robbed at the Shell station about a mile away.

According to the victim, the suspect entered the store, spoke with the clerk, and then escorted the employee out of the gas station, according to Deputy Chief John Thomas of the Concord Police Department. The suspect placed a pillowcase over the victim’s head, handcuffed them, and placed them in the front seat of a car.

“The suspect re-entered the store where he began to fill pillowcases with merchandise,” Thomas said. “The clerk was able to escape the area where he contacted a police officer. The suspect fled the area prior to officers’ arrival at the store.”

Officers converged on the area, not knowing if weapons were involved or if the suspect was still inside the store. The first arriving officer reported finding a pillowcase at one of the gas pumps. The suspect was described as white, wearing a black sweatshirt and a black mask, and had fled the scene. Concord police and New Hampshire State Police used a K-9 unit and a drone in an effort to try and find the suspect.

On April 12, a statewide BOLO (be-on-the-lookout) call was issued for a black 2000 Honda CR-V that a man from Manchester owned. The alert stated Concord police had a search warrant for the vehicle and were attempting to find it. The BOLO noted the SUV was connected to a Concord gas station robbery and kidnapping incident. At that time, the incident was still under investigation.

On Tuesday, Concord police arrested John Donnell, 35, of Manchester on two counts of robbery and kidnapping, both felonies. Also arrested was Luke McClintick, 28, also of Manchester, on an accomplice to robbery charge, also a felony. They were arraigned in Concord District Court on Wednesday and held on preventative detention.

Both Donnell and McClintick are no strangers to police.

Five months later, a warrant was issued for his arrest on a violation of probation charge. Donnell was arrested and held on $3,000 cash bail. In March 2017, he pleaded guilty to the violation, receiving a 12-month sentence, deferred for six months, with 86 days of credit for time served. Five months later, the sentence was amended, and the sentence was suspended for 18 months. Donnell failed to appear at a violation of a court order hearing in July 2022.
