Mass. Man Expected To Be Deported After 15 Year Heroin Sentence

CONCORD, NH — A Bay State drug dealer has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for his role in running heroin in both New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Alberto Guerrero Marte, 34, of Lawrence, MA, was given the sentence on Nov. 1, 2017, after being found guilty of distributing the drug to customers in both states – inside of the homes of individuals who were cooperating with the drug trafficking organization, according to Acting-U.S. Attorney John J. Farley. Guerrero Marte pleaded guilty to participating in a conspiracy to distribute, and possess with intent to distribute, heroin.

“This defendant was responsible for the distribution of large quantities of heroin to customers in Massachusetts and New Hampshire and deserves the lengthy sentence that was imposed by the court,” Farley said in a statement. “While we recognize the importance of providing access to treatment for those suffering from addiction, we will continue to work closely with all of our law enforcement partners to investigate and prosecute those who are profiting from the sales of heroin and other deadly drugs. I commend the hard work of the law enforcement officers whose efforts led to the successful prosecution of this significant drug trafficker.”

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations, the Mass. State Police, the Haverhill Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Service, the NHSP; the Manchester Police Department, the Lawrence Police Department, the Lowell Police Department, the Methuen Police Department, and the Hillsborough County Drug Task Force.

“Opioid abuse is at epidemic levels in New Hampshire and across the North East,” said DEA Special Agent in Charge Michael J. Ferguson. “Heroin is causing deaths in record numbers and DEA is committed to aggressively pursue Drug Trafficking Organizations who distribute this poison in order to profit and destroy people’s lives and wreak havoc in our communities. This investigation would not have been a success without the continued commitment of our local, state and federal law enforcement partners.”

Guerrero Marte is expected to be deported to the Dominican Republic after serving his sentence.
