Merrimack County Sheriff Pleads Not Guilty To DWI Charges: Report
Scott Hilliard was arrested this month on drunken driving charges on Route 3 in Tilton after a witness accused him of driving erratically.

TILTON, NH — Scott Hilliard, the sheriff for Merrimack County, pleaded not guilty to aggravated driving while intoxicated and other charges in Franklin District Court Monday, choosing not to appear in court, according to a report in the Concord Monitor. Hilliard was arrested on Aug. 9, after a tipster reported seeing his vehicle "driving erratically" on Route 3. The caller followed the vehicle to the Ninety-Nine Restaurant parking lot where he was arrested later by police.
Hilliard was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated – due to having a blood concentration level more than 0.16 percent – and two driving while intoxicated charges, and an open container violation. He is currently out on bail.
Hilliard, an active Republican activist, has been working in law enforcement for nearly four decades and has been sheriff of the county for 13 years. Earlier this year, the Concord City and Merrimack County GOP committees recognized him for his long service in law enforcement and his leadership in protecting victims' rights, combating drug abuse, and his work with juvenile diversion programs.
