CONCORD, NH — State and federal officials have issued firearm theft charges against the father of a missing New Hampshire girl.

As part of the investigation in trying to find Harmony Montgomery, 7, who has been missing since the fall of 2019, more charges have been issued against Adam Montgomery, 32. According to the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office, between Sept. 29, and Oct. 3, 2019, Adam Montgomery stole a rifle and shotgun from another person. The firearm theft accusations, which were also investigated by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives led him to be charged with two counts of theft by unauthorized taking, two receiving stolen property counts, two felon in possession of a weapon counts, and two counts of armed career criminal, based on having been convicted of three or more qualifying felonies and being accused of possessing stolen firearms.

All of the charges are special felonies that carry a mandatory 10-year sentence in the New Hampshire State Prison for Men with a maximum of up to 40 years in prison.

“There is no evidence of any connection between the stolen firearms and the disappearance of Harmony Montgomery,” Michael Garrity, the director of communications, said on Monday. “Due to the ongoing nature of this investigation, no additional information about the facts of this case will be released at this time.”

Adam Montgomery is being held on a felony assault charge, accused of striking Harmony Montgomery a few months before she disappeared. He and his wife, Kayla Montgomery, were indicted last month on charges. Kayla Montgomery faces a felony theft charge, accused of collecting food stamp benefits for Harmony Montgomery even though she was not living with her while collecting the benefits.

Adam Montgomery has a long criminal history, with serious crimes occurring in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire, dating back nearly two decades when he was a teenager living in Bedford. The charges in New Hampshire include criminal threatening, burglary, weapon possession, violation of protective orders, and varying assault charges — including stabbing a teenager and pushing him out of a moving vehicle during a drug ripoff deal.

After being charged with armed robbery, armed assault to murder, carrying a firearm without a license, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building in Haverhill, MA, in February 2014, during a drug deal shooting, he served an 18-month stint in prison.

Adam Montgomery is also being eyed as a potential suspect in the 2008 murder of Darlin Guzman of Lynn, MA.

The search for Harmony Montgomery continues, and officials request the public’s assistance with locating her, Garrity added.

Volunteers searched an area near the Bedford-Manchester city-town line for clues in the case on Saturday.

Anyone with information regarding her disappearance or current whereabouts is asked to call the Manchester Police Department’s 24-hour Harmony Montgomery tip line at 603-203-6060.

Adam Montgomery is expected to be arraigned in Hillsborough County Superior Court North on Wednesday.
