CONCORD, NH — A man from Hillsborough will be in Concord District Court next month, facing charges after being accused of driving between 88 and 149 mph on Interstate 89 Tuesday.

New Hampshire State Police on the ground and in the air were working a traffic enforcement initiative in Hopkinton when a trooper clocked a motorcycle rider on a 2017 Honda CBR-1000 driving at 88 mph, a report said.

Troopers attempted to stop the motorcyclist, later identified as Fnu Abraham, 29, of Hillsborough, but accused him of fleeing “at a high rate of speed,” Amber Lagace, a public information officer for state police, said. She said Abraham reached a top speed of 149 mph while being monitored for several miles. He then left the highway at Exit 6, Lagace said.

“While traveling on Route 127, Abraham passed several vehicles on a double yellow line at a high rate of speed,” she said. “The aircraft informed ground units that Abraham had entered the parking lot of Mr. Mike’s convenience store in Hopkinton and parked at the gas pumps.”

Lagace said the aircraft continued to observe Abraham until troopers from Troop D and the Special Enforcement Unit arrived. He was arrested and charged with speeding, disobeying a police officer, and reckless driving charges, as well as unsafe passing, operating without a motorcycle license, and uninspected motorcycle violations. Abraham was released on personal recognizance and is due to appear in Concord District Court on Aug. 25.

The New Hampshire State Police Special Enforcement Unit is a specialized unit that focuses on enforcing traffic laws, promoting highway safety and reducing the number of crashes on New Hampshire roadways, Lagace said. The unit has the latest technology and tools to monitor and enforce traffic laws, including the state police aircraft, she said.
