New Hampshire Bar Stabbing Suspect Captured In Long Island, New York
Nassau County police officers arrested Desmel Cooper. He was accused of stabbing a man 4 times on Elm Street in Manchester in February.

CONCORD, NH — A New Hampshire fugitive was arrested in New York recently after police on Long Island recognized and arrested him.
Desmel Cooper, 40, a convicted cocaine dealer who had a shank in prison, was accused of stabbing a man in Manchester, lacerating his liver, outside a bar on Elm Street on Feb. 12. He was also wanted on federal warrants after being released from prison.
Cooper was accused of stabbing the man four times during the incident. Not long after, police in Manchester issued a warrant for his arrest.

According to Andrew Grillo, a deputy marshal, there were other concerns about Cooper after it was believed he fled New Hampshire after the incident.
“A federal supervised release violation warrant was issued for Cooper once the U.S. Probation Office was made aware of the Feb. 12 street fight,” he said. “Cooper was on federal supervision after a 2011 narcotics conviction in the U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont. He was then prosecuted for possessing a ‘shank’ in a federal facility in 2014.”

Grill said the federal warrant, Cooper’s “history of violent and threatening behavior,” and the potential that he might be in New York, led the fugitive task force to push the Manchester warrant and cast a wider net to find him.
About 10 days after the stabbing incident, Cooper was found by Nassau County police officers.
“Cooper accrued minor local charges and was taken into custody without incident,” Grillo said. “Hillsborough County will extradite Cooper on the Manchester warrant, and Cooper will answer for his federal charges once back in New Hampshire.”
