New Jersey Earthquake Felt In New Hampshire

Concord and Penacook residents and many across the Northeast reported feeling their homes shake after 2 quakes hit the Garden State.

CONCORD, NH — A Friday morning earthquake in New Jersey was felt all over the Northeast, including New Hampshire.

Around 10:23 a.m., several Concord and Penacook residents reported feeling their homes shake but no sound. A check of the U.S. Geological Survey reported a 4.7 magnitude quake near Whitehouse Station, Redington Township, New Jersey, at the same time.

About an hour later, the site updated the location of the quake to about 6 kilometers east southeast of Califon, New Jersey, about 11 miles from the original reporting site. It also increased the magnitude from 4.7 to 4.8. The quake had a depth of 4.7 kilometers.

That area of New Jersey is around 330 miles from Concord.

A second quake, about 2 magnitude, was reported about 7 kilometers west of Bedminster, NJ, about 50 minutes after the Califon, NJ, quake. The depth of that quake was 8.1 kilometers.
