Pair From Penacook Picked Up After Bow Loud Exhaust Traffic Stop

Denise Schuster was arrested on a felony escape charge and warrants out of Colorado. Jeffrey Schuster was arrested on a driving charge.

BOW, NH — A traffic stop on Route 3A led to the capture of a local woman wanted in Colorado on an escape charge as well as numerous warrants and a man on a driving charge. At just after 12:30 a.m. on May 24, 2019, a Bow police officer watching traffic from a construction business on Route 3A noticed a black Pontiac Grand Prix drive by and later, accelerating. Even with the police cruiser windows rolled up, the officer stated in an affidavit, he could hear the exhaust of the vehicle.

"The exhaust sounded as if it had an exhaust leak or was not functioning properly," the officer reported.

The officer followed the vehicle to the Bow Junction where the Pontiac slowed down for the red light. When the light turned green, the vehicle pulled away and again made the same loud exhaust noise, the officer wrote. The vehicle was pulled over a short time later and the officer requested information from both the male driver and a female passenger.

The driver was identified as Jeffrey Schuster, 45, of Penacook, and he had a suspended license. The passenger, according to the officer, gave the name of "Denice" Schuster, but after running a check with the birthdate she gave, he found that her name was actually Denise. The officer wrote that Denise Schuster was wanted in Colorado on an extraditable fugitive from justice warrant for felony escape after being convicted of fraud as well as a non-extraditable warrant from Florida and electronic bench warrants for allowing an improper person (to drive), two counts receiving stolen property, and theft by deception.

The officer radioed to dispatch to double-check what the computer was showing and confirmed the warrants.

"I asked Denise to step out of the vehicle and speak with me and I asked her if she knew that she had EBWs," the officer wrote. "She stated that she only knew about a warrant out of Florida that was non-extraditable."

Jeffrey Schuster was placed in handcuffs and charged with operating after suspension-subsequent. Bow Dispatch confirmed the warrants with both Colorado and Florida, and Denise Schuster, also 45, of Summer Street in Penacook, was arrested and held on $1,693 cash bail. She was arraigned later that morning.

According to the Boulder County Sheriff's Department, Denise Schuster was arrested by the Louisville Police Department in May 2018, on criminal possession and failure to appear and by sheriffs in July 2018 on a writ of habeas corpus and failure to appear on a criminal impersonation charge.
