Somersworth Woman Arrested On Robbery, Other Charges

HOOKSETT, NH — A report of a fight in the parking lot of Market Basket in Hooksett led to felony charges against a woman with a number of prior incidents.

Police were sent to the store, located on Market Drive, around 3 p.m. for a report of a fight occurring in the parking lot. Police spoke with store employees and Stephanie MacDonald, 40, of Somersworth. The store employees accused MacDonald of leaving the store without paying for a bottle of wine, according to Sgt. Mike Zappala of the Hooksett Police Department.

“When one of Market Basket’s employees confronted MacDonald, she raised the bottle of wine and struck the employee,” he said. “A struggle ensued between the employee and MacDonald until officers arrived on scene. MacDonald admitted to what occurred and was arrested for robbery.”

After investigating the incident, police charged her with robbery and theft by unauthorized taking, both felonies due to two prior convictions as well as criminal threatening, simple assault, and false report to law enforcement.

MacDonald was arraigned in Merrimack County Superior Court and held on preventive detention.

According to prior reports, MacDonald has had a string of criminal activity since 2007 when she was convicted on a felony habitual offender charge. In 2008, she was convicted on a felony theft charge out of Rochester. In November 2009, she was convicted on a criminal trespass charge. In September 2011, she was convicted on public safety and welfare; prohibited acts and two felony theft charges. In August 2013, she was convicted on a felony theft charge after an incident in Somersworth. Back in April 2019, she was accused of a dine and dash in Rochester at the Dynasty Restaurant, according to the New Hampshire Union Leader. MacDonald was accused of felony theft and contempt in Somersworth in November 2019, felony theft in Newington and Somersworth in February 2020, and Newington earlier this year, and those charges are working their way through Strafford County Superior Court.
