Thunderstorm, Flash Flood, Heat Alerts Issued For New Hampshire

The National Weather Service has issued a 3 hazardous weather alerts that Granite Staters may need to prepare for Wednesday to Thursday.

GRAY, ME — Most of the state of New Hampshire is under three hazardous weather condition cautions issued by the National Weather Service Wednesday.

Forecasters are expecting scattered thunderstorms throughout the state during the afternoon and evening that "may be severe with damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rain," a hazardous weather outlook said.

Along with the thunderstorm alert, a flash flood watch alert was also issued for central and southern New Hampshire including Concord, eastern Hillsborough County communities like Amherst, Bedford, Merrimack, Milford, and Nashua, interior Rockingham County communities such as Exeter, Londonderry, Salem, and Windham.

The flash flood alert runs from 2 p.m. through the evening as "thunderstorms with heavy rainfall will develop this afternoon and move through the state" offering "very heavy rain may lead to flooding especially in urban areas," forecasters said.

Beginning from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday, a heat advisory has been issued for the same areas of the state offering "hot temperatures and high humidity" that could cause "heat illness" for some residents.

"Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors," forecasters said. "Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned."

Temperatures are expected to be in the high 80s to mid-90s for most of the state during the next 48 hours.
