Tree Set On Fire Along Horseshoe Pond In Concord: Watch

Concord firefighters were sent to the Fosterville area of the city to extinguish a burning tree near homeless camps that was on fire Sunday.

CONCORD, NH — Concord firefighters were sent to the Fosterville area of the city on Sunday for a report of trees on fire.

Capital region fire dispatch began receiving calls about a tree or trees on fire just before 11 a.m. near the railroad tracks along Horseshoe Pond. Smoke was reported in the area and flames could be seen from the wooded area where there were often homeless campers.

Firefighters staged on Commercial Street and Horseshoe Pond Lane and prepared to enter the area. The fire commander said they did not know if a tanker truck would make it onto the property but surmised the forestry unit truck would.

Firefighters with portable units and the forestry unit truck drove along the tracks and into the wooded area next to the pond. The smoke and fire could be seen from the Pierce Manse, across the water.

Command reported it appeared a single tree was on fire, but they would check the area.

Firefighters extinguished the flames and then cut the tree down, dousing it with more water. Command said firefighters confirmed no other trees or brush on fire and cleared the scene later, heading to another fire on South Main Street.
