Webster Man’s Death in Fire Ruled Accidental

Breaking: NH State Fire Marshal: Steven Youngs, 61, died from inhalation of smoke from a fire yesterday.

CONCORD, NH — The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office has released the name of the man who perished in a fire during the weekend as well as the cause of death, according to a press statement. The man who passed away was Steven Youngs, 61, of Webster, and the cause has been ruled “inhalation of smoke” and “accidental,” according to State Fire Marshal J. William Degnan.

Firefighters from that community as well as Concord, Hopkinton, Salisbury, and Warner, were all sent to Little Hill Road at just before 3 a.m. on Jan. 22, 2017, for a three-alarm house fire. Eight other people that were occupying the home were able to escape the flames, according to officials.

“The investigation by the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s office into the origin and cause of the fire is completed,” the statement noted. “Due to the extensive fire damage to the residence the fire origin and cause has been ruled undetermined.”

Degnan added that the department would like to remind everyone that working smoke alarms save lives and to have an escape plan from you residence in case of a fire, according to the statement.

“When a fire is detected by smoke alarms, occupants only have minutes to escape before being overcome by the effects of smoke," he noted.
