Mirsky: Strongest Candidates-President 2020: June 2019 Edition
Exeter, New Hampshire Attorney David Mirsky provides his latest inside look at the 2020 Presidential race.

EXETER, NH – This is Attorney David Mirsky reporting from the frontlines of the 2020 Presidential race with my latest report.
Republican operatives are calling the 2020 election already as a landslide for Donald Trump. That is their job. But it's too early for the rest of us to give up hope.
Just to let you know the real life of a political blogger in New Hampshire these days, I missed my chances to see some of the best excitement going on because of other responsibilities: We didn’t get to the Joe Biden event in Hampton early enough to get a seat inside, so my wife and I were relegated to listening to Vice President Biden from outside the pizza restaurant where he was speaking, over a loud speaker. Joe Biden did come outside to meet with our crowd, and I have included a photo I took of Joe Biden's meeting with supporters outside the Hampton event. I also missed the chance to attend events by (1) Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, the #MeToo candidate, also in Hampton; (2) Pete Buttigieg, Mayor of South Bend, Indiana, who is very popular; and (3) Andrew Yang, a businessman with new ideas who has a lot to say and has interested many young voters in New Hampshire. I am hoping to see and hear these people at a later date.

Anyway, here is my current list of the strongest candidates for US President in 2020, and it’s as arbitrary as I can make it:
- Former US Vice President and Longtime US Senator from Delaware, Joe Biden. It’s not just the poll numbers, it’s not just his penchant for telling it like it is, it’s Joe Biden, man!!! He helped to elect our first African American President, Barack Obama, and he helped to make gay marriage a reality. You know Joe Biden. The man needs no introduction. He will cure your ills. Remember, the most viable candidate is the one that most people like.
- Elizabeth Warren, US Senator from Massachusetts. I have seen and heard Elizabeth Warren at Portsmouth High School during the current campaign, as noted in this blog at an earlier date. Elizabeth Warren is the most intense candidate of all. Her goal, plain and simple, is to take the money held by the rich people and give that money to the rest of us.
- US Senator Cory Booker from New Jersey, the former Mayor of Newark, New Jersey. I am hoping to be able to attend a Cory Booker event in Exeter very soon. I think he has a chance to break through and burst everyone out of their complacency. Senator Booker has a great documentary on Netflix entitled, “Street Fight” – which is about his first run for Mayor of Newark against an entrenched popular figure of the past. “Street Fight” shows you what Cory Booker is made of. I believe he has what the writer Tom Wolfe called “The Right Stuff.” Exeter Blue Hawks football fans will be interested to know that Cory Booker was a star tight end for the Stanford football team when he was in college.
- US Senator Bernie Sanders, former 2016 Presidential candidate from Vermont. As Democrats we can all be grateful to have Sanders running in our Primary without actually joining the Democratic Party. If he loses, he will trash the Democratic nominee, as he did to Hillary Clinton. And if Bernie Sanders wins, he can promote Stalinist Socialism and we can all re-experience the good old days of 1984 and 1972, when Democratic presidential candidates lost nearly every state in the country.
- Beto O’Rourke, former US Congressman from El Paso, Texas, is the most Kennedyesque candidate of the lot. He combats the anti-immigrant rhetoric of our current President by extolling the virtues of immigration, which he understands clearly as he is from El Paso, Texas. (If you are not sure what I mean, check out a map of the United States.) Beto is overwhelmingly the most magnetic candidate in the race, so, Democrats who want to win in November 2020, pay attention please. I spoke with Mr. O'Rourke in Exeter recently (see my previous article on this blog), and he established for me that he has the tenacity to survive this presidential race.
And with that, I will leave you all to the beautiful rainy June 2019 weather outside. Stay tuned.
