UPDATED: Plane Crash Reported Near Hampton Airfield
The Piper PA-28 owned by a couple from Maine crashed off Cedar Road in North Hampton. Both the pilot and passenger are expected to be OK.
A small plane crash near the Hampton Airfield left two people injured Sunday morning, according to press reports this morning.
The Federal Aviation Administration stated that the plane was a Piper PA-28 and it crashed about a quarter of a mile from the Hampton Airfield but would not comment on the specifics of the incident. The Piper was owned by a couple from Biddeford, Maine, according to the FAA.
“The FAA is investigating,” according to a statement. “We will release the aircraft registration after (local) officials release their names (of the crash victims).”

At a press conference at just before noon, officials said the pilot and the passenger, who were both transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital to be treated, are expected to survive. The pilot was able to get out of the plane on his own. A male passenger suffered “serious burns” on about 10 percent of his body and was later medflighted to Boston.
The crash occurred at 9:40 a.m. in a wooded area. Motorists were urged to avoid the area. The FAA and officials are investigating the cause of the crash.

WCVB-TV has photos of the plane posted on Twitter from the company’s helicopter and WMUR-TV has a short video clip of the crash scene area.
This is the second time in less than a year that there has been a major plane crash in the region. Two people perished after their plane crashed during Labor Day weekend of last year.
