2 Transients Arrested On Theft Charges In Nashua

NASHUA, NH — Two homeless people were arrested by Nashua police on Friday after two separate theft investigations.

Back on March 8, a Nashua business reported stolen merchandise to police. After taking an initial report, detectives worked the case which, later, led to a suspect — David Vega, 37, of no fixed address in Nashua.

“During the theft investigation, detectives learned that Vega had also rented a vehicle using someone else’s identity,” Lt. Patrick Hannon of the criminal investigation division.

On Sept. 2, police were called to another local business for a report of a motor vehicle theft. After an investigation, Vega along with Melissa Guyer, 34, of no fixed address, were determined to be suspects in that case.

“Over $1,500 in painting supplies were within the vehicle when it was stolen and those supplies were never recovered,” Hannon said.

Both Vega and Guyer were arrested on Friday. Vega was charged with identity fraud, two counts of theft by unauthorized taking, and theft of mislaid property, all felonies. Three of the charges were felonies due to two prior theft-related convictions, Hannon said. Guyer was charged with felony theft by unauthorized taking and two misdemeanor theft charges.

Vega faces 46 years in prison as well as fines while Guyer faces 17 years in prison plus fines.

Vega is being held at the Hillsborough County House of Corrections pending his arraignment on Monday in Hillsborough County Superior Court South. Guyer was released on personal recognizance pending an arraignment at a later date.

According to posts on Patch, Vega was previously indicted on receiving stolen property and theft by unauthorized taking charges after incidents at the Kmart in Hooksett in 2019. He was also indicted on a felony fentanyl possession charge from 2018. Guyer was previously indicted on drug dealing charges in Nashua in 2015.
