The Academy for Science and Design TSA Team Members Win Big at TSA Conference

STEM students excel at New Hampshire State Technology Student Association Conference

The Academy for Science and Design Charter School, the state’s top-performing public school and largest STEM-specialty school serving students in grades 6-12 , had over 80 students attend the New Hampshire State Technology Student Association (TSA) conference March 19th - March 20th 2015 in Lincoln, New Hampshire.

Founded in 1978, TSA is the only student organization devoted exclusively to the needs of students interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). TSA supports STEM education goals through more than 60 high school and middle school competitions, leadership activities and teamwork for students.

Middle and high school TSA students from ASD, guided by their TSA advisors AnDrew French and Rebecca LaCourse competed with their peers in 52 competitive events based on principles and concepts learned through projects during the school year in STEM subjects. The TSA team from ASD had 116 winners. The Middle School team won a new 3-D printer for being the best performing chapter in the state.

TSA advisor Andrew French said “I am so impressed with these 86 students. Last year we had 13 students, 11 of which were state finalists, so our TSA program has really grown at the Academy for Science and Design.”

“Yet with that growth, we’ve continued to keep our program on course, individualized, and, with the invaluable assistance of parents and fellow teachers, have provided a foundation for our students to excel in the STEM field. I am very excited to take these winners to the national TSA competition in Dallas, TX this summer.” French added.

The Academy for Science and Design is actively seeking to partner with local companies and businesses for student-centered things such as internships in STEM fields for our students, financial donations, and/or presenters for our school for the SPARK Conferences. Financial donations can be an outright financial contribution in the amount of your choice, or can consist of underwriting costs for installing a specific facility technology or program. The Academy for Science and Design has two more SPARK Conferences scheduled this year, and presenters from the community are always welcome. More information can be found on our website at www.asdnh.org or email Amy.Bewley@asdnh.org.
