Murder of Nashua Girl, 3, Prompts Child Abuse Legislation

Brielle Gage, 3, was murdered by her mother last year, authorities said.

Brielle Gage was just 3 years old when prosecutors said her mother beat her to death in Nashua.

Now, city lawmakers have proposed new legislation aimed at preventing such a tragedy.

Republican Senator Kevin Avard and Democratic Senator Bette Lasky are among the sponsors of SB 244, which would give authorities greater power to search homes were child abuse is reported.

Police said Katlyn Marin, 25, assaulted her child multiple times in late November 2014. Brielle was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Police said Marin’s actions exhibited an “extreme indifference to the value of human life.” She was charged with second-degree murder.

SB 244 was approved by the Senate and now heads to the House for debate.
