Portsmouth DWI Crash Leads To 8 Charges Against Dover Man

Nicholas Blangiardi allegedly crashed near the rotary after police witnessed a crash. He was arrested in 2016 for DWI after a crash on I-95.

PORTSMOUTH, NH — A local man was arrested on numerous charges after a crash at the Portsmouth rotary last month. Nicholas Blangiardi, 28, of Dover Point Road in Dover, was arrested on Feb. 21, 2018, for driving while intoxicated, reckless conduct, reckless operation, felony witness tampering, failure to yield, yellow line violation, speeding, and breach of bail. At around 7 p.m., two officers conducting proactive traffic enforcement near the rotary allegedly saw a two-vehicle crash and went to the scene to investigate.

“During the investigation into the crash, it was determined that the operator of one vehicle was intoxicated and this, along with speed, were contributing factors to the crash,” according to Lt. Mike Maloney of the Portsmouth Police Department. “It is alleged, during the course of the investigation, that Blangiardi attempted to influence a passenger (in) his vehicle not to cooperate with police and withhold information.”

A woman in the second vehicle was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with minor injuries, according to police.

Blangiardi was also arrested by police in Portsmouth in 2017, on multiple counts of criminal mischief, and was out on bail at the time of the arrest, according to police. He was also arrested for driving while intoxicated in November 2016, after a crash on I-95 in Seabrook, according to a post on Patch. Blangiardi was arraigned the next day in Rockingham County Superior Court.
