Third Heroin Overdose Death in a Month Hits Portsmouth

Police seek information about who may have sold the drug to Corey Jarest, who was pronounced dead on Friday.

A local man reportedly died on Friday from a heroin overdose and police are looking for information about who may have sold him the drug.

Corey Jarest, a 29-year-old Portsmouth resident, was pronounced dead on Kent Street on Nov. 7, at around 6 p.m., when police and fire and rescue teams were called to the address for a report of an unconscious male.

Capt. Mike Schwartz of the Portsmouth Police Department said in a statement that while the state medical examiner’s office hasn’t ruled on the death yet, police are “pursuing the investigation as a heroin overdose.”
