“The description of this person was consistent with that of a suspect who’d fled after a police pursuit several hours earlier that terminated in the area of the Chester-Derry town line,” Thomas alleged. “A Derry police detective spotted the man in a swampy area off of Tsienneto Road near Route 102.”

The detective recognized the man as Collins, from previous contacts, and knew he had active warrants. The Lawrence Eagle-Tribune noted that there were more than 40 cases against Collins dating back to 1993.
“The detective attempted to detain Collins who fled further into the swamp,” Thomas stated. “He was arrested shortly after 5 p.m. with the assistance of a NH State Police K-9.”
The incident originally started in Haverhill, MA, after a pickup truck owned by a Kingston horse trainer was reportedly stolen from a residence in that community. The vehicle was then spotted in Salem and a multi-agency, multi-community pursuit ensued. In Chester, the stolen truck was reportedly dumped along powerlines and a New Hampshire State Police K-9 unit and other officers searched the area to find the suspect.
Collins was transported by Derry Fire and Rescue teams to the Parkland Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries that were reportedly sustained during his efforts eluding police. He was held on $5,000 cash bail. This morning, Collins was arraigned in Derry District Court and that bail remained in place. Thomas noted that he also had active warrants in Fremont, Epsom, and Raymond, along with possible charges in other communities.
