FENWICK ISLAND, DE — Police in Delaware made a unique discovery this week when a red lifeguard chair from the Jersey Shore washed ashore on Fenwick Island.

On Sept. 24, the Fenwick Island Police Department said city officials were alerted to a “large red object" that washed up on Lewes Street Beach. Authorities determined it was a lifeguard chair and recovered it from the surf.

After investigating, Fenwick Island Police Chief Michael Morrissey said the chair was one of several lost this season from Ship Bottom in Ocean County.

While police couldn't determine when the chair was lost, it traveled more than 118 miles through the Atlantic Ocean before it was found on Fenwick Island.

The future of the chair is unclear, but it likely won't be returning to Ship Bottom, Morrissey told NJ Advance Media.
