NEW JERSEY — Power outages are affecting thousands of people in New Jersey on Tuesday afternoon as strong winds sweep through the state in the wake of this most recent winter storm.

A wind advisory is in effect for counties across central and southern New Jersey until midnight Tuesday night. Wind gusts of 40-50 miles per hour are possible across the state.

Jersey Central Power and Light has 3,107 customers without power as of 3:11 p.m. Tuesday. Atlantic City Electric reports 826, PSE&G lists about 754, and Orange and Rockland Power report 10 in New Jersey.

Cancellations at Newark Airport and the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City are causing trouble for passengers hoping to make their destinations by bus or airplane.

Other threats include coastal flooding during times of high tide, AccuWeather forecasters added. This is mainly a risk for Monmouth and Ocean counties, including Barnegat Bay, per the National Weather Service.

A gale warning is also in effect through Wednesday in the Atlantic coastal waters and the Delaware Bay, with wind gusts 35-45 knots possible and seas of eight to ten feet.
