1. Health officials are warning of a rare flesh-eating bacterium known as Vibrio vulnificus, found naturally in warm coastal waters, that has killed at least eight people along the East Coast this summer. Infections can happen when people with open wounds or cuts come in contact with water where the bacteria are present, or eating undercooked seafood.(Read more on Patch.)
2. Health officials said the percentage of New Jersey kindergarteners who are up to date on their vaccinations against measles has dropped slightly. This follows national trends that show declining immunization rates against one of the world’s most contagious diseases, which had been all but eradicated for decades before a tide of vaccine hesitancy swept the country. 3. Another 2 million homeowners and renters may be eligible to apply for the second year of the ANCHOR tax rebate program, which pays up to $1,500. Meanwhile, the application process got a whole lot easier for those who have already received money back. (Read more on Patch.)
4. Former president Donald J. Trump said it is "no longer necessary" to have a press conference in New Jersey next week about his claims that the 2020 election results in Georgia were rigged. Trump had planned to unveil what he called "irrefutable and overwhelming" evidence of election fraud in Georgia. (Read more on Patch.)
5. Officials ordered 27 Boston Market locations in NJ to stop operating, after finding evidence of workers' rights violations including failure to pay minimum wage, failure to pay earned sick leave, and unpaid/late payment of wages. Boston Market is on the hook for more than $2.5 million in back wages, fees, and damages, which state officials assessed to parent company Boston Chicken of NJ, LLC. (Read more on Patch.)
