Man Gets 10 Years For Robbing Barnegat, Manahawkin Banks

BARNEGAT, NJ — A man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Friday for robbing one bank in Barnegat and another in Manahawkin.
Kim Nguyen was arrested April 19 after robbing Manahawkin's Wells Fargo on March 16 and Barnegat's M&T Bank on March 19, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office. Nguyen, 39, approached the teller both times with a note saying "this is a robbery."
The Newtown, Pennsylvania, man pleaded guilty Sept. 6 to both robberies. Nguyen agreed to a plea deal that would sentence him to 10 years in prison. He must serve 8.5 years before potential parole eligibility.

After the robberies, officials reviewed footage from surrounding businesses and the New Jersey Turnpike Authority. Barnegat and Stafford police identified a vehicle with Pennsylvania plates, which belonged to Nguyen's father.
Authorities found that Nguyen was on parole for a Pennsylvania bank robbery from 2012. Authorities matched a fingerprint on one of the robbery notes to Nguyen.
