Stafford Recognizes April 19 As CDH Awareness Day

Congenital diaphragmatic hernia is a birth defect as common as cystic fibrosis but without as much awareness, Mayor Greg Myhre said.

STAFFORD, NJ — The mayor and Stafford Council took the time to recognize April 19 as Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) Awareness Day at a recent council meeting.

CDH is a birth defect where a hole in the diaphragm moves abdominal organs into the chest, which causes issues with normal lung development.

A Stafford child, Dante Manzo, who was born with CDH, was at the meeting to join in the proclamation.

CDH is about as common as cystic fibrosis, Mayor Greg Myhre said, but does not get near the same level of attention.

When Myhre gave Manzo the opportunity to speak, he offered up a simple "I hope everyone with CDH survives."
