Bayville Section Of Route 9 Closed, Pole And Wires Down

Winds reached 42 mph in Berkeley, knocking out power in 69 township homes as of 1 p.m. Monday.

Route 9 is closed in the Bayville section of Berkeley between Butler Boulevard and Serpentine due to poles and wires knocked down, officials said. The Ocean County Sheriff's Office announced the closure at 4:13 p.m. Monday on Nixle.

The OCSO said to avoid the area if possible. Severe winds have knocked out power in over 50,000 New Jersey homes, including 69 Berkeley homes as of 1 p.m. Winds have reached 43 mph Monday in Berkeley, according to the National Weather Service.

Traffic-light outages were also reported in Beachwood on Monday morning, according to the Sheriff's Office. The OCSO said to call the following to report power outages, unless it's an emergency:
