Berkeley Creates Special Needs Registry For Emergency Prep

Berkeley's Special Needs Registry is voluntary, free and confidential.

Accommodation for a special need shouldn't add to your worries during an emergency. Berkeley Township has created a Special Needs Registry for residents with a special need of which they think emergency responders should be aware.

Special needs can include but are not limited to wheelchair-bound residents, a child with autism, anyone who has Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or someone who is insulin-dependent or allergic to bee stings, officials said.

The program is voluntary, free and confidential. Once residents complete a questionnaire, Berkeley police will flag the registrant's name and address in their dispatch system.

Residents can opt out at any time. The information provided is restricted to first responders who need to know the information, officials said.
