BERKELEY, NJ — Berkeley police chased a driver to a dead end Wednesday before discovering he was intoxicated, officials said. David Davis drove erratically and ignored a red light before police stopped him toward the dead end of Butler Boulevard at the Barnegat Bay, authorities said.

Patrolman Sean Varady observed a black van driving erratically near Veterans Park, police said. Davis, 28, of Beachwood, refused to stop as Varady tried pulling him over, according to authorities.

Davis attempted to elude Varady before parking by the dead end, police said. Further investigation showed Davis seemed to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to police.
