Berkeley Police To Hold Presentation On Phone Scams
Nearly half of mobile calls are projected to be fraudulent in 2019, according to AARP.
BERKELEY, NJ — How do phone scams work, and how can you protect yourself? Berkeley police will hold a presentation on phone scams that address these questions and more.
The program takes place at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20 at the Berkeley library. The program description states the following:
"Phone scams are a plague on our communities. Learn everything you need to know about this important issue. How do phone scams work? What are some of the current phone scams circulating in our area? What can you do to protect yourself? This program is presented by the Berkeley Township Police Department."

According to AARP, 44.6 of mobile calls in 2019 will be fraudulent. That's a sharp increased from 3.7 percent in 2017 and 29.2 percent in 2018.
Landline scam calls, however, have declined but are still common, according to AARP. In 2019, 24.8 percent of scam calls will come from landlines.
