Berkeley Resident One of Two Donovan Catholic Seniors Named National Commended Scholars

Michael Quigley of Bayville and Tyler DePaolo of Jackson scored among the top 5 percent of all students who took the PSAT last year

Two Donovan Catholic High School seniors have been named National Merit Commended Scholars in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship program, school officials announced Tuesday.

Michael Quigley of Bayville and Tyler DePaolo of Jackson each received letters of commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program.

To be a Commended Scholar, a student much place in the top 5 percent nationally of all the students who take the Preliminary SAT as juniors. This year, 34,000 students nationwide of 1.5 million who took the test have been been honored.

Commended students do not continue on in the competition, however being commended students affords Tyler and Michael the benefit of being candidates for special scholarships sponsored by various corporations and businesses, Donovan Catholic officials said in announcing the honors.
