Racially charged social media posts by a member of the Central Regional Board of Education drew rebukes from staff members, former students and community members, who urged the district to take action at the district’s school board meeting in March.
The now-former Ocean Gate Mayor Paul Kennedy was charged on March 18 with official misconduct and theft after using government money for his own benefit. In May, additional charges of misconduct and theft were added after an investigation revealed that, among other things, Kennedy had used campaign funds for his personal benefit, according to officials.
Blackbeard's Cave on Route 9 used to be a great small amusement park for local families to enjoy rides, mini golf and more. However, after several difficult years, the park gave up some of its leased land and sold equipment to attempt to reopen for the 2021 season as a smaller park, but ultimately never reopened. Free Entrance To Island Beach State Park This Summer
This was Berkeley Patch's top-viewed story of 2022. Gov. Phil Murphy announced in the spring that entrance to all state parks, including Island Beach State Park, would be free for the summer.
