Central Regional School Board Cannot Comment On Suspended Athletic Director

The matter involves both personnel and litigation, special attorney says at meeting.

Although a resident asked about the status of suspended Central Regional Athletic Director Vincent Casale at the Feb. 19. Board of Education meeting, he didn’t get an answer.

Special attorney Mark Toscano broke into Keith Rosetti’s question immediately and said school officials and board members were forbidden from commenting on the matter, since it involves both personnel and litigation issues.

“It’s a matter of personnel,” Toscano said. ”The board cannot comment on matters of personnel. I don’t know how else to answer. It’s discussed with the board, not the public. ”

Superintendent Triantafillos Parlapanides suspended Athletic Director Vincent Casale on Feb. 2 and escorted him from the Central Regional campus, over what he termed a personnel matter that doesn’t involve students or staff.

Casale has been athletic director in the district for roughly a decade. He was suspended with pay, Parlapanides has said.

Parlapanides said earlier this month he could not discuss the details of the suspension until the matter was discussed with the Board of Education.

“There’s still an investigation going on,” he has said. “The full board still has to hear it.”

Casale makes $134,843 a year, Board Secretary Kevin O’Shea said.

Central Regional High School Principal Douglas Corbett was named interim athletic director until the matter is resolved, Parlapanides said.
