Motion To Move Lacey School Board Elections Fails In Split Vote

Five board members attended the Aug. 18 meeting; two were absent.

The four Lacey Township Board of Education members who showed up for the Aug. 18 board meeting voted 2 to 2 on a motion made to move the school board elections back to April, according to app.com.

Board member Regina Discenza - who made the motion - and board member Shawn Giordano voted to approve the motion. Board President Maureen Tirella and Vice-President Eric J. Schubiger voted no.

Roughly 100 residents who want more control over the $75.6 million school budget packed the board meeting room. Board member Linda A. Downing abstained. Board members Donna McAvoy and David Bidwell were absent.

Lacey Township Committee members recently agreed to put a question on the November ballot, if the Board of Education agreed.

Tirella said the board was “still looking at” the proposal.
