Woman Who Drowned At Island Beach State Park Identified: Report

The woman who went missing at Island Beach State Park Monday evening has been identified, according to a report.

BERKELEY, NJ — The 59-year-old woman who went missing off of the coast of Island Beach State Park has been identified, a report said.

The woman was Elizabeth Treharne of Toms River, according to a report by NJ.com.

Treharne's husband reported that she went into the water south of the A22 area and hadn't come out Monday evening, the U.S. Coast Guard and New Jersey State Park Service previously said.

State Park Police were made aware of Treharne going missing at 8:20 p.m. Monday, a spokesman for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection said. A search was immediately launched with a small boat from the Coast Guard's Barnegat Light Station and a helicopter from the Atlantic City Air Station.

The search was called off at midnight and began again at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning, the DEP spokesman said.

Treharne's body was recovered Tuesday at 11:05 a.m., the DEP spokesman said. Read More: Body Of Missing Island Beach State Park Woman Recovered

The U.S. Coast Guard, State Park Police, New Jersey State Police Aviation Unit, Berkeley Township Police, the Ocean Beach Fire Department, the Seaside Park Fire Department, the Seaside Heights Fire Department, the Lavallette Fire Department and the Ocean County Sheriff's Office assisted in the search.

Treharne's death is one of several recent drownings at the Jersey Shore, with another death in Belmar the same day. In Wildwood and Wildwood Crest, there have been three drownings in the past two weeks.
