Cub Scout Pack 451 Learns the Importance of Art and Teamwork
The boys participated in an art activity and relay games at their January Pack meeting
The Cub Scouts in Pack 451 learned lessons in trustworthiness and the value of art at their monthly meeting on Friday, January 15. The meeting began with a presentation by Dan Grzywacz, program director for Camp Wheeler, the Cub Scout day camp at Mt. Allamuchy Scout Reservation in Stanhope, NJ. He spoke about the fun-filled camp opportunities for boys entering grades 2 through 5 this summer.
Next, Mary Lev, president of the Board of Trustees at The Center for Contemporary Art in Bedminster, spoke about the importance of art in our lives. The boys enjoyed hearing about how it helps us learn and absorb the world around us. The Center is offering a free family art day, called Hooray for May!, on Saturday, May 7 from 1 to 4 p.m. at 2020 Burnt Mills Road in Bedminster. All ages are welcome.
The meeting ended with a group art activity and cloud puff relay, in which the boys learned that being a part of a team involves trusting one another and doing their best. During the relay, the boys formed two teams and lined up single file. Each scout picked up a cotton ball “cloud” with his spoon, then passed it down the line, from spoon to spoon. The team of boys who passed the largest number of “clouds” to the “mountains” at the end of their line won.
