River-Friendly Workshop: Rain Gardens, Rain Barrels and More

Learn how to design an ecologically friendly project and take part in the building of a demo rain garden in Bernardsville.

Raritan Headwaters Association and the AmeriCorps NJ Watershed Ambassador for the Upper Raritan watershed will present a workshop at Bernardsville Public Library on Saturday, February 27 at 2:00 pm on how to make your backyard, schoolyard, parks and businesses more beautiful and ecologically friendly while also saving money.

In this two-part workshop, participants will learn how to design their own projects and take part in the building of a demo rain garden in Bernardsville. Practical information will be presented about installing a rain garden and rain barrels as well as guidelines for keeping our lawns green without polluting our waterways and groundwater. Residents, schools and businesses who make their property more water friendly will receive River Friendly Certification, free rain garden plants, and discounted rain barrels. The second part of the workshop will be the building of the rain garden and will take place in early April near the Community Garden on the Dunster Squibb property. Participants are welcome to come to one or both days.

These programs are co-sponsored by the Bernardsville Green Team and the Bernardsville Environmental Commission. There is no charge to attend, but advance sign-up is requested. Register online at www.bernardsvillelibrary.org and follow the link from Adult Programs, or call the library at 908-766-0118 to sign up.
