Bloomfield Police Charge 2 Suspects With Armed Gas Station Robbery

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield police have arrested two male suspects in connection with the armed robbery of a local gas station and resulting police chase that weaved through multiple Essex County communities.

According to the Bloomfield Police Department, two men robbed the Shell Gas Station at 19 Beach Street at gunpoint on Monday at 6:11 p.m.

Police alleged:

“The two suspects entered the station in a black Acura requesting two dollars in gas. The driver, later identified as Clinton Scott, 45, of Montclair, then demanded money from the gas station attendant, while the passenger, William Jones, 46, of Newark, pointed a gun. The attendant handed over the money, approximately $300 dollars, at which time the vehicle fled onto JFK Drive.”

Police added:

“Bloomfield Police Units spotted the vehicle, which led to the pursuit. The suspect vehicle collided with another motorist in the City of Irvington. Both suspects were apprehended by Bloomfield police with the assistance of Essex County Sheriff Department and Irvington Police Department.”

Police transported Scott and Jones to the Essex County Correctional Facility, authorities stated.

According to the Bloomfield Police Department, there were no serious injuries reported from the collision and no injuries reported to officers or the suspects. The suspects’ vehicle was impounded for further investigation.

On Wednesday, the BPD announced that after obtaining a search warrant for the vehicle, officers found a black metal pellet gun under the rear passenger seat cushion.

Authorities charged Scott with First Degree Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, Eluding and Aggravated Assault.

Authorities charged Jones with First Degree Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
