BRICK, NJ -- For the second straight year, a Brick Township teacher's work is being honored beyond the district's boundaries.

Jeanette Wehner, a fifth-grade and special education teacher at Emma Havens Young Elementary School, has been named the Ocean County Teacher of the Year for 2016 by the New Jersey Education Association.

Wehner, an in-class support and STEM teacher, "is always engaging in new technology and techniques to use in the classroom as she promotes a STEM curriculum where students learn by doing," the Brick schools said in announcing her as district teacher of the year in April.

"Her action inspires others as she goes above and beyond for her students and colleagues alike," Emma Havens Young Principal Patricia Lorusso said. "She is truly an asset to our school community."

Wehner's selection follows the honoring of Brittany Bucco, a Spanish teacher at Lake Riviera Middle School, who was the 2015 selection.

“NJEA is proud to join with students, school employees, parents, and others in congratulating the 2016-17 New Jersey County Teachers of the Year,” the organization said in a statement. “They are an impressive group of educators; we applaud their achievements inside and outside the classroom and we thank them for making their careers in public education.”
