I-287 To I-78 Ramp To Close For Sinkhole Repairs This Weekend
The closure is needed for final paving of the reconstructed permanent ramp and installation of guide rail, signage, and permanent lighting.

BEDMINSTER, NJ — Ongoing repairs and reconstruction of the Interstate 287 North to Interstate 78 East ramp in Bedminster will begin Friday night following a sinkhole that appeared in 2022., New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials announced Wednesday.
The I-287 northbound Exit 21A ramp to I-78 eastbound will be closed and detoured beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25 until 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28.
The closure is necessary for the final paving of the reconstructed permanent ramp and the installation of guide rail, signage, and permanent lighting, according to NJDOT.

The following detour will be in place:

- Motorists on I-287 northbound wishing to take the Exit 21A ramp to I-78 will be directed to continue on I-287 northbound
- Take Exit 26B/CR 525 north/Mt Airy Road north/Bernardsville
- Stay right to take the ramp to I-287 southbound
- Take Exit 21A to I-78 eastbound
By Monday morning, I-287 northbound Exit 21A will reopen with traffic using the newly reconstructed permanent ramp.
Work will continue behind a construction barrier to remove the temporary ramp. In addition, there is ongoing electrical and drainage work.
The ramp will remain open while this work is taking place. The project is expected to be completed this fall.

A temporary ramp with two lanes was constructed in July 2022, which allowed the exit to be reopened.
Since that time, drainage improvements have been made and the ramp has been reconstructed, according to NJDOT.
