Rt. 80 One Of New Jersey's Deadliest Roads, Report Says

The road, which runs in New Jersey from Hardwick to Teaneck, saw a number of deaths last year.

CHATHAM, NJ — Route 80 is one of the deadliest roads in New Jersey, according to a report published on nj.com.

Eleven people died in traffic accidents on Route 80 in 2016, the reported said. The number increased from nine deaths the year before. It's the eighth deadliest road in the state, tied with Route 49, Route 55, and Route 1.

Route 80 runs in New Jersey from the Delaware Water Gap Toll Bridge in Hardwick to Teaneck, where it meets the New Jersey Turnpike.

March 4, 2016: A single-car crash claimed the lives of two passengers Thursday afternoon on Route 80 in Warren County. Three women heading eastbound in the area of mile marker 9.1, just west of exit 12, crashed into a tree in the median around 4:50 p.m. Read more here.

July 17, 2016: A driver was killed Sunday in a wrong-way motorcycle crash on I-80, police said. Brian Bermudez, 24, of Woodland Park, died when state troopers tried stopping the black Suzuki motorcycle he was driving shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday, but he sped off, police said. Read more here.

Nov. 19, 2016: Zaira Rijos-Laureano, 37, of Haeldon, was killed when the car she was a passenger in crashed on I-80 eastbound at milepost 53.7 in Wayne, said State Police Trooper Alejandro Goez. Read more here.

Dec 10, 2016: One person was killed and another seriously injured in a three-car N.J. highway accident on Saturday, police said. The accident happened at about 12:40 a.m. on Interstate 80 when a Honda Civic hit a man who had gotten out of his tractor-trailer after pulling over, according to the State Police. Read more here.
