CHERRY HILL, NJ — It's been three years, almost to the day, since a Short Hills Plaza fire destroyed Classic Cake's store. But after years without a permanent home, the bakery expects to reopen in the shopping center soon.

With construction underway, Classic Cake anticipates a May opening for its new location in the Evesham Road plaza, the business announced on social media.

Although Classic Cake remained in business, the bakery endured adversity since the fire, which occurred shortly before COVID-19 restrictions took root in New Jersey. On March 6, 2020, a blaze spread through the strip mall, creating a thick fog that could be seen for miles.

Classic Cake picked up operations out of the Short Hills Deli, which was also in the shopping center. The longtime deli permanently closed in late 2021 after 25 years. But Classic Cake maintained the storefront for its operations through 2022.

With the Short Hills Deli taking new life under new ownership, Classic Cake has spent 2023 without a retail store. But that will change once the bakery can open in its new location within the shopping center.

Meanwhile, Classic Cake has taken orders via phone. The establishment offers pickup in Voorhees at an address disclosed upon ordering, while also offering deliveries for an additional fee.
