Doctor From Cherry Hill Faces Prison Time For Improper Oxy Prescriptions
Dr. Cheh S. Lu prescribed the substance without even interacting with patients, according to the 86-year-old's federal plea agreement.
CHERRY HILL, NJ — A doctor from Cherry Hill faces prison time for improperly distributing oxycodone to patients over several years, according to court filings. Dr. Cheh S. Lu pleaded guilty April 26 to the federal charge.
From January 2018 to February 2022, Lu wrote prescriptions for the substance without interacting with the patients, court documents state. Court records also claim he provided the patients to an unnamed person who got the prescriptions delivered to Lu's patients.
Lu, 86, pleaded guilty last week to one count of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance. The federal offense carries a maximum penalty of 20 years' imprisonment and up to $1 million in fines. However, if Lu's prison sentence falls between two years and 37 months, neither he nor federal prosecutors will appeal the ruling, according to his plea agreement.

Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 7.
Lu is still licensed as a doctor of osteopathy and as an MD in acupuncture, according to the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs database.
