CHERRY HILL, NJ — South Jersey, say "hej!" to an IKEA store in the region. The Swedish furniture giant will soon open a pop-up shop in the Cherry Hill Mall.

The IKEA Kitchen Planning Pop-Up Shop is the first of its kind, according to company representatives. The store will allow customers to check out the retailer's designed-kitchen display, with specialists helping patrons plan out their own kitchens.

At the end of each planning session, customers can order and pay for their custom kitchen on-site through a mobile-payment link that's sendable to a smartphone or email address.

The pop-up will celebrate its opening at 10:30 a.m. Friday and about six months — until Sept. 30.

South Jersey doesn't have a permanent IKEA. Greater Philadelphia has two — one in South Philly and another in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. But the Garden State's only IKEA stores operate up north — in Elizabeth and Paramus.

But IKEA plans to open more pop-up shops around the United States in the near future.

"This is a great opportunity for us to reach and better serve our South Jersey customers," said Michael Hill, IKEA South Philadelphia's customer experience manager. "It also gives us a unique opportunity to inspire our customers in an innovative way while also helping to increase their awareness of IKEA home-furnishing solutions."

The store will operate from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and then Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Find store info here.
