Man Indicted In Fatal Shooting Outside Cherry Hill Hotel

Police say Kevin Fentress killed a teenager and wounded two others in the 2016 shooting.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — A Burlington City man has been indicted in the 2016 murder of a 17-year-old Camden teen outside the Inn of the Dove in Cherry Hill last year, authorities announced.

Kevin Fentress, 22, has been indicted on five counts, including first-degree murder, third-degree aggravated assault, fourth-degree aggravated assault, second-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and second-degree unlawful possession of weapons, Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo said.

Fentress is accused of fatally shooting 17-year-old Jadyre Gordon, of Camden, while Gordon, a 20-year-old Willingboro man and a female were inside a car that was leaving a parking lot near the front entrance of the Inn of the Dove complex at about 2:24 a.m. on Feb. 28, 2016. The complex is located at 725 Cuthbert Boulevard.

Gordon and the man were injured in the shooting, and the female was injured by flying glass as a result of the shooting. All three people were in the backseat, Colalillo said. The driver wasn’t identified.

Gordon was taken to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries at 3:37 a.m. The other two victims were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, where they were treated and later released. The shooting was the result of an altercation that took place inside the hotel earlier, according to Colalillo.

After the shooting Fentress remained at large until he was ultimately arrested without incident at an acquaintance’s home in Marietta, Georgia, by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force – Camden Division and Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force – Atlanta Division on May 6, 2016.

He was then extradited to New Jersey and remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility. On June 7, 2017, in accordance with the recent Criminal Justice Reform rules, the court ordered that the defendant be detained without bail pending trial.
