Woman Sentenced For Killing Husband With Fire Extinguisher: Cops

Laciana Tinsley claimed she was the victim of domestic violence at the hands of her husband, Douglas Tinsley.

A South Jersey woman who claimed to be a victim of domestic violence has been sentenced to 24 years in New Jersey state prison for fatally beating her husband with a fire extinguisher inside their township residence early last year, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced.

Laciana Tinsley, 44, of Willingboro, previously pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in connection with the death of 74-year-old Douglas Tinsley.

She admitted to repeatedly hitting her husband in the head with the fire extinguisher in their home on the first block of Hancock Lane on Jan. 30, 2017. She must serve 85 percent of her sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

Douglas Tinsley was pronounced dead at the scene at about 12:30 p.m. that day. The cause of death was blunt head trauma as a result of being bludgeoned with a fire extinguisher.

Laciana Tinsley was arrested at the house and charged later that day. She was indicted for murder less than three months later. She claims her husband attacked her repeatedly, and that she was defending herself when she hit her husband with the fire extinguisher.

“This was a tragic case,” Coffina said. “There is no justification for the brutal killing of Mr. Tinsley. We are gratified that justice has been served, and our thoughts continue to be with the victim’s family.”
