Woman Admits Killing Husband With Fire Extinguisher: Prosecutor

The Burlington County woman said she was the victim of repeated domestic attacks, and she was acting in self-defense.

A South Jersey woman who claimed to be a victim of domestic violence has admitted to beating her husband to death inside their home last year, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced on Monday.

Laciana Tinsley, 43, of Willingboro, has pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in connection with the death of 74-year-old Douglas Tinsley, Coffina said. She admitted to repeatedly hitting her husband in the head with the fire extinguisher in their home on the first block of Hancock Lane on Jan. 30, 2017, Coffina said.

Douglas Tinsley was pronounced dead at the scene at about 12:30 p.m. that day. The cause of death was blunt head trauma as a result of being bludgeoned with a fire extinguisher.

Laciana Tinsley was arrested at the house and charged later that day. She was indicted for murder less than three months later. She claims her husband attacked her repeatedly, and that she was defending herself when she hit her husband with the fire extinguisher, Coffina said. She faces 24 years in state prison. Sentencing is scheduled for July 20.
