See How Many Heroin Abuse Cases Were Reported In Clark, Garwood

CLARK/GARWOOD, NJ — New Jersey has released its annual list of heroin-abuse cases reported by each community, revealing the most recent data of reported cases. Here is where Clark and Garwood stand on the list of cases from the most recent year available, 2018.

In 2018, Clark Township reported a total number of 37 heroin-abuse cases or 2.37 cases per 1,000 people. While Garwood reported a total number of 23 heroin-abuse cases or 5.27 cases per 1,000 people.

Looking at those numbers in comparison to the other 549 towns reported on the list Clark ranked at 217th highest for the number of cases reported and 346th for cases per 1,000 people while Garwood ranked at 300th highest for the number of cases reported and 170th for cases per 1,000 people.

The opitate drug continues to be a pervasive problem in the state's cities and suburban areas. In Union County, Garwood had the highest number of cases per 1,000 people but Elizabeth had highest total number of cases with 589 reported.

The statistics were recently released by the Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services in the New Jersey Department of Human Services, and they're based on the number of people seeking treatment for heroin abuse.

The state Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services have cautioned that these numbers are reported by each community, so each jurisdiction is responsible for reporting its results fairly and accurately. Please note that Patch did not include towns that had no reported cases.
