Truth Matters

To the voters of Garwood from Westfield 20/20

It has come to our attention that The Committee to Elect Ileen Cuccaro for Mayor of Garwood has made dishonest claims about Westfield 20/20 in political flyers, and the Garwood Republican Committee has made similar claims on its Facebook page. In the spirit of values put forth by the Committee itself in several posts, expressed using terms such as “Truth” and “#FactsDoMatter,” we would like to correct these falsehoods.

Both in flyers and on Facebook, Ms. Cuccaro’s campaign and the Garwood Republicans have claimed that Sara Todisco’s campaign is funded, supported, and run by Westfield 20/20. These claims are completely false. We neither “run” nor have made financial contributions to any candidate or political party anywhere in the state or country. Any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to deceive voters and sow discord.

Further, the Garwood Republicans have labeled Westfield 20/20 as “HATE-FILLED” and a “far-left hate group.” This could not be further from the truth. While we may not agree with the positions and opinions of certain candidates for office or political parties, we strive to always treat others with respect and dignity and to listen to their viewpoints.

We are happy to provide Garwood voters with the facts about our organization. Westfield 20/20 is a group of like-minded citizens from this area who share news and information on issues. Our group is dedicated to educating citizens and holding our local, state, and federal representatives accountable for representing our values. We are a registered 501(c)4 organization and, as such, follow state and federal guidelines regarding our activities. Our primary, but not exclusive, focus is New Jersey Congressional District 7.

The majority of our efforts are issue based. We focus on healthcare, women’s issues, environmental concerns, gun safety, immigration, and other areas of interest to our members. Currently we are working diligently to remind our neighbors to register to vote, to return their mail-in ballots, and to get to the polls on election day.

We urge the voters of Garwood to go to the polls and vote for the candidates they believe will further their own values. We simply hope they do not base their decision on falsehoods and deceptive tactics.
