Good Friday Tenebrae Service at Trinity Cranford – Fri. Mar 30th
Tenebrae means "shadows" or "darkness." The candles a gradually extinguished during the service between scripture readings.
On Friday March 30, 2018 at 7:30 PM Trinity Episcopal Church,119 Forest Avenue, Cranford, New Jersey will have a Good Friday Tenebrae service. Tenebrae means “shadows” or “darkness.” That is a perfect title for a service that prepares us so well, in heart, mind, even in body, for the three days when the Light seemed to fade on Good Friday. It is a haunting service of readings of Scripture. The most conspicuous feature of the service is the gradual extinguishing of the candles while a series of readings are spoken. The readings will be interspersed with instrumental music from the flute and piano. “Good Friday is the second of the three great services of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Paschal Vigil on Saturday, which together are collectively known as the Triduum and encapsulate the heart of the Christian faith,” said The Reverend Andy Kruger, Trinity’s Priest-in-Charge.
