Man, 40, Dies In East Brunswick Crash
BREAKING: The crash occurred Friday morning at Rt. 18 and Rues Lane, but he succumbed to his injuries Wednesday in the hospital.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — A 40-year-old Staten Island man died Wednesday after he was seriously injured in a car accident Friday in East Brunswick Township, East Brunswick police announced. The accident happened at 6 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Rt. 18 and Rues Lane, a junction that's seen more than its fair share of car accidents.
John Asmat, 40, of Staten Island, was a front-seat passenger in a 2005 Nissan Altima, driven by a 57-year-old female family member. Their car collided with a 2007 Honda Accord being driven by a 37-year-old Old Bridge woman. The Old Bridge driver was headed north on Rt. 18 and the car Asmat was in was headed east on Rues Lane. The two cars collided with each other when they went through the intersection.
Asmat and the driver were both rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University hospital in New Brunswick. She had moderate injuries, but he had been seriously injured. The Old Bridge woman suffered no injuries at all.

Today, Wednesday May 3, Asmat succumbed to his injuries, police said.
East Brunswick police special operations unit is investigating the crash. If anyone witnessed it, they are asked to call (732) 390-6969 and ask for Patrolman Anthony DeSantiis or Patrolman Glenn Tabasko.
